The Browning A-Bolt II bolt action rifle was manufactured by The Browning Company which was founded by firearm specialist Mr. John Browning in 1880. The Browning Company is one of the most famous American gun companies and the Browning A-Bolt II is one of the most popular bolt action rifles today. The Browning A-Bolt II is available in various models in calibers appropriate for any sport. Some of the more famous models are the White Gold Medallion, Medallion, Hunter, Micro Hunter, the Hunter FLD, Eclipse Hunter, Eclipse M1000, Stainless Stalker, Composite Stalker and the Varmint Stalker.
The Browning A-Bolt comes with the option of having a Browning Ballistic Optimizing Shooting System or simply known as BOSS system and the non vented BOSS CR muzzle weight. The BOSS System increases the accuracy of the shots fired and substantially reduces the recoil impact. This is also inclusive of an adjustable muzzle brake. The BOSS also has a unique feature where it can be adjusted according to the weight of the bullet to give you maximum accuracy. There are many common features among all Browning A-Bolt action rifle models. The most obvious feature is the exceedingly superior and adjustable trigger system which integrates a chrome plated sear. The Browning A-Bolt II also comes with a fluted anti bind bolt that has a non rotating bolt sleeve with a rotating head and three locking lugs instead of two. This rifle fires well with .22 Hornet cartridges as well as the .375 H&H Magnum and all WSM and WSSM calibers.
The best known model from the Browning A-Bolt range is the White Gold Medallion which comes in a handsome package of deluxe walnut Monte Carlo stock (inclusive of cheek piece), rosewood grip cap and forearm tip, rubber butt pad and a striking high gloss stock finish. The White Medallion weighs around 7 pounds 3 ounces for the 22 inches barrel and 7 pounds 11 ounces for the 26 inches barrel. It is also comes with the option of having the BOSS system. The unique feature that you cannot miss is the gold engraving on the stainless steel barrel. The Medallion model is also similar to the White Gold Medallion model. It comes with the select walnut pistol grip with a straight comb, rosewood forearm tip, grip cap without line spacers, rubber butt pad, and high gloss finish. The different features are the sling swivel studs and the deep luster blue finish on the barrel. The receiver flats are also engraved. Left handed shooters will be happy to note that the Medallion are also available in left-hand models.
Even though the White Gold Medallion is the best known Browning A-Bolt range, the Hunter model is the best selling action rifle of the A-Bolt II models. It is a more practical rifle and comes in 22 inch, 23 inch, 24 inch and 26 inch barrel depending on the caliber and weighs exactly like the Medallion model. The Hunter also comes with a walnut pistol grip stock with a straight comb, rubber butt pad and the familiar high gloss finish. It has a durable low-glimmer bluing on the barrel action and has a detachable sling swivel base. The Micro Hunter model which comes in 20 inch and 22 inch barrel (depending on the caliber) is the shorter and lighter version of the average Hunter. Small sized people will find this gun handy because of its shortened pull of 13 and 5/16 inches and weight of 6.25 pounds. The Hunter FLD model is a combination of the Medallion and the standard Hunter. It has the characteristic of the select walnut Monte Carlo stock of the Medallion and the low glimmer blue metal finish of the Hunter. All 3 of the Hunter models have optional open sights.
The least glamorous of all the Browning A-Bolt II action rifles is the Composite Stalker model. It has the Stainless Stalker but the surface is of matte blue metal. The BOSS system is an optional feature. The heavy duty model of the Browning A-Bolt II range is the Varmint Stalker which is the varmint rifle in the Stalker range. It weighs 8 pounds with the 24 inch barrel in the .223 Remington Caliber and 8.25 pounds with the 26 inch barrel.
