The stainless steel and Royal Blue finishes are still available in the Python "Elite" model.

Colt Python Revolvers are available with 2.5 inch, 4 inch, 6 inch, and 8 inch barrels. The 6-inch model is immensely popular and the 8-inch variety is favorable for hunting. The 3-inch barrel version, which has been discontinued, is a highly valuable collector's item. Presently, it is made by Colt's Custom Shop as the Python Elite model with a 4 or 6-inch barrel. Its market price starts at $1000 USD. Of late, Colt has put an end to production of double action revolvers, including the Python because of sales dips and increasing production costs.

The Colt Python Revolver was very popular within the law enforcement market when it was introduced. This is not true any longer as most service revolvers used at present are semi-automatic pistols that are much needed to keep pace with law and order requirements of toady.
