The pistols are manufactured in Argentine by the Bersa S.A. company. BERSA firearms are manufactured near the city of Ramos Mejia in the province of Buenos Aires, in Argentina. BERSA manufacturing was founded in 1958 by three Italian immigrants: Benso Bonadimani, Ercole Montini and Savino Caselli. The 'BERSA' name is actually taken from the first syllables of the three partners' first names. Thunder pistols are available, in several different versions. The Thunder-380 pistols are of simple blow-back design, while the Thunder-9, Thunder-40 and Thunder-45 pistols are locked breech design. Thunder series pistols are relatively compact and handy, they offer significant capacity. Fully ambidextrous ergonomics. The pistols are relatively inexpensive. The only differences between Thunder, Thunder Ultra-Compact, and Thunder-mini pistols are size and magazine capacity. Thunder 9 pistols are standard issue pistols for the Argentinean Federal Police and the Buenos Aires Province Police. Trigger is of double action type, with exposed hammer and ambidextrous frame mounted safety, which de-cocks the hammer when engaged, then locks the slide and sear. The action also features a firing pin safety, which blocks the firing pin until the trigger is pressed. The pistol is a fine gun for the price. The pistols are indirect copies of the older Walther P88 design, a fine gun in its own right. Can't recall any failures observed at the range. They are a bit wide due to the double stacked magazines but otherwise very compact. One problem that I have seen is hammer bite. However, I see that from time to time with other makes and models. The Bersa is a good-looking gun. The slide racks well and mechanical fit and polish is good. Sights are a three dot arrangement, a little small for my old tired eyes, but about right for a gun of this size. Besides, when the $#!^ hits the fan, who's taking the time to look at the sights any way. Like the SIG P232 the trigger doesn't return all the way after the first shot, so no excess take up in the single action trigger pull. Accuracy is good for service/carry grade pistol. The gun is comfortable to shoot.
