I recieved an NRA update today, via e-mail. They said the feds are trying to pass another "no-gun" bill on National Parks again. They're fighting it of cource, but you can never predict these kinds of outcomes. Some form of it always gets passed, and the states usually follow suit. Has anyone been following this?

I understand that there is strong reactions toward new rules for guns in national parks. The Department of the Interior wants to partially lift its ban on bringing loaded firearms into parks and wildlife refuges for CCP holders.

Good news.

INTERIOR SECRETARY SAYS THE RULES FOR CARRYING FIREARMS SHOULD BE CONSISTENT BETWEEN A NATIONAL PARK AND THE STATE IT'S IN. AND TO ALLOW CONCEALED CARRY PERMIT HOLDERS TO HAVE THE ABILITY TO CARRY THEIR HANDGUNS INTO THE PARKS. ALL RIFLES AND SHOTGUNS WOULD STILL HAVE TO BE UNLOADED AND STOWED, AS IS THE CASE NOW.

In my opinion that's fine with me.

THE CHAIRMAN OF THE NON–PROFIT CITIZENS COMMITTEE FOR THE RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS. Commented, that people, mostly young women have been attacked and killed in national parks and refuge areas were they are not allowed to have firearms to protect themselves.

I argue, in those kinds of areas you can't exactly call Law Enforcement. You are not going to get someone out to protect you.

HOWEVER THE PARK RANGERS AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL GROUPS ARE QUITE UNHAPPY WITH THE CHANGE. They have stated

"We're concerned that it is going to lead to 'accidental' shootings, increased wildlife poaching, and diminish people's enjoyment of their national parks."

GIVE ME A BREAK HERE. DIMINISHED ENJOYMENT!

Poaching isn't done by conceal carry permit holders Partner, that's going to take place WITH or without additional firearm restrictions.

And since when is being in the company of someone that is able to protect themselves and others is un-enjoyable?

Whew... I'll step down from my soap box.

Thanks general,

I was under the impression it was going to be another limitation on where I was allowed to exercice my right to carry and protect my family. The NRA sent another up-date today, but I haven't read it. I'm sure you get the same, I seem to remember reading some where that you're a member also.
