the main reason that I know of is as a locking systom as the force needed to push a bolt back is less than to push and rotate, I may be compleatly of line (it has been known from time to time) but that is my understanding hope this helps or at the least brings coment from those who know more than I. |

Yeah, the Lt. scores the point. It's the chosen locking system for fast action weapons and high powered weapons. |
