The M1 garand is a legion, but I have to go with the Remington 700. Plinking, target shooting, sniping the best versitile rifle around. |

The Remington 700 certainly has been a platform that many manufacturers have copied. Excellent all around rifle. |

FN makes a bull pup that shoots the 5.56 AR-15 round, and it's called the FS2000. I've never seen it on the Futureweapons show though. Perhaps you're talking about the Israeli Tavor assault rifle? |

Militarily speaking, I agree with the above mentioned rifles. AK-47 is one of the most reliable firearms in the world. It is not the most accurate. The ammunition is inexpensive however. AR-15/M16 is more accurate than the AK-47, but has been blemished historically as unreliable and prone to jamming. (unfairly so, in my opinion, I won't expound why I believe that in this post) Modern versions are less prone to this old stereotypical belief. M14 Main Battle Rifle. Said to be the most accurate semi-automatic rifle. Fires the 7.62x51mm NATO round, which is significantly more substantial than the 5.56mm NATO cartridge. FAL is another popular Main Battle Rifle that fires the 7.62x51mm NATO / .308 Win. cartridge. Remington 700P known as the Remington Police Sniper Special - it is one of the most accurate out of the box rifles in a reasonable price range. Serbu .50BFG for Long Range tactical targets at a mile is an accurate, well designed, attractive bolt-action .50BFG rifle. I believe it is the least expensive .50BMG rifle. Your Father was a wise man Major Brad281. Years ago and often times today, folks don't have the means to purchase 'The Best' rifle available. I have witnessed fantastic shots taken with an old family rifle that had been handed down through the generations. Those rifles where able to put food on the table and keep the wolves away when needed. Sometimes the two legged ones. "When you're determined to survive, you leave nothing to chance." |

Opinions are like rifles, everyone has one. It may not be "The Best One", but when I list my top five rifles; I never fail to mention my M1 carbine. I never thought the little rifle would ever fall off the world scene. My top five, if anyone is wondering; Springfield 1903(A3), My Garand, my Grandpa's 1917, my little M1 carbine, My Oly AR-15, and my Remington 700 BDL in 8mm. |
