It is just coincidence that I find poor quality with the new products being produced by Kimber? I have also learned that customer service is no where near the level is was just five years ago. Has anyone else had similar experience with this company?

i have a kimber custom II and it just isn't that great, to be honest i think that my Sig Sauer P-220 is a better pistol all around. Maybe i just got an off one...

Lt Colonel,
Your statement is the norm, rather than the exception. I have investigated a bit and found that this company is NOT what it once was. Poor quality control and worst customer service. What a crying shame. Why is less more these days!

If Companies like Kimber is willing to sell out, who's next?
Ruger or Springfield. I can't fathom the concept. It is so short sighted to think that it won't hurt sales down the road. Look at Hi-Point products. I won't buy them for several reasons I don't care to go into at the moment, however they sell like hot cakes at the shows. Cheap, function flawlessly and life time warranty. Usually, they go to first time buyers. I've been collection for over thirty years and bought a Kimber in 2004. It was a summit for me, so to speak. First time buyers don't spend $1200 on a handgun. One of the reasons was that I trusted the companies reputation.

Sadly enough i really look to Europe for my hand guns now, the glocks, Walthers, and Sigs i've gotten have all never let me down once. I think the next 1911 i get will be from the Sig Sauer line.

I bought a Kimber Ultra Covert a few months back. It hasn't malfunctioned on me, and I've fired about 500 rounds through it. I do have a couple complaints though. The finish on the safety has worn off from holster wear, and I recently saw some rust specs on the hammer. I left a message with Kimber's Custom Shop twice (once about each issue,) and haven't gotten a returned phone call. When you lay out that kind of money for a gun, you'd like to think the company you bought it from would like to keep your business. All that said, I still love the weapon. It just requires a little more care than any of the others in my stable.

Mine rusted almost immediately and actually had to remov e the stock finish and have a custom powder coat put on it, not what i would expect from that kind of company. But i think mine turned out uniquely sweet...

Lt Colonel,
If possible I would enjoy seeing your Custom II with the Powder Coat Finish.
I bet it looks fantastic.

Captain Brad281, Can you tell me the year your Ultra Covert was manufactured? During my investigation I have determined that it has only been the last few years that issues with Kimbers have been observed. My Gold Match was made late late 2003. It functions flawlessly and the finish is superbe. It's the units I have seen at the range made after '04 that are in question.

Chaindriven, the Ultra Covert was introduced in 2007. I bought mine in Sept. or Oct. It was special ordered from Kimber, so it didn't sit around a gun shop for six months. As a matter of fact, I cleaned the shipping grease off the gun myself.
Fred, I was disappointed with the Carbon Steel barrel. Kimber said it was 20% stronger than stainless, or at least that was their excuse for cheaping out. In hindsight I probably should have went with a Springfield Loaded Microcompact.

Lt Colonel,
Please accept my apology. CSM Spot is new to our forum and is unaware that JOKES need to be posted in the 'Off Topic' section of the forum. I was hoping to maintain a good topic thread and I am disappointed that it was hi-jacked.

well we've never really had a problem with people acting like that, to bad. To be honest i'm even really sure how his comment was relevant at all, let alone suppose to be "funny".

Well to get back to the topic, I visited a 1911 community forum
http://forum.m1911.org/ and they have 1911 specific forums dedicated to different manufacturers of 1911. It was interesting to read what the Kimber owners had to say.

My expereince with Kimber was not a positive one. I purchased a Pro Carry II brand new and after around 200 rounds the number where a good quality 1911 starts operating at the high end, this one started jaming on me. I hade the gunsmith at the store that I purchased it and he accused me of limp wristing it. I took it with a grain of salt and took it back to the range after he polished the feed ramp and made a couple other small ajustments. But, the gun was still a pain to deal with and impossible to consider as a carry gun. So, after 800-900 rounds and several more trips to the store gunsmith, I had it sent back to the Kimber Pro Shop. It took around 10 days for it to come back and then they told me that it was my fault that I hadn't changed the recoil spring at 700 rounds. I checked the owners manual and sure enough it did say that I needed to do that. This is the first 1911 that I have ever owned that needed a recoil change after 700 rounds. So, supposedly I had a gun to go after coming back from Kimber, right? Wrong, as I took it to the range the following day and the first magazine load, it jammed again, and again and again. I made a decision that day that this pistol was leaving my collection, and I traded it at a gun show with the understanding that it tended to jam. I purchased a used Colt Gunsight full sized 1911 and I have had no trouble with that sweet pistol at all. I did need a trigger job done on it, but, that was all.

So, my oppinion of Kimber is not the highest. I know folks that have Kimbers and love them and I just keep my mouth shut, as I surely don't want to rain on anyones parade. But, Kimbers customer service was lousy as they didn't fix the problem, but, just blamed the owner for the problem. That in my oppinion was not great customer service. I have Smith & Wesson 1911's, Colt 1911's and, everytime I have called either customer service they have bent over backwards to help me. Not so with Kimber.

Bull,

I have had similar experience with Kimber Customer Service. Fortunately though, my Ultra Covert operates flawlessly. Mine is due for a new recoil spring at 1800 rounds. I'm just dissatisfied with the Carbon Steel used in the barrel and hammer, and of course the finish could be better. Sorry you had such bad luck.
