Hello,
My name is Thomas, a somewhat average guy, hardworking in a family business.
My experience with Guns is minimal, most if not all occured when I was much younger. My greatest achievement was to earn the Riflemanship merit badge.
I have good common sense and know that weapons of any sort should be handled carefully and with respect.
In all honesty my only reason for looking to obtain a weapon is for self defense and preservation for me and my family. It is with regret that I feel that it is becomming more important to arm ourselves in order to protect our Country and our freedom.
I am going to be looking to purchase a handgun(If New York State will give me a permit) and what I believe would be refered to as an assault style rifle. I am looking for advice from seasoned, well informed gun owners.
I am open to suggestions.
Thanks,
THomas

thomas you should talk to your family first see how they feel about you haveing a gun in the house an if they are ok with that then you should go to your local gun store they will tell you what the state laws are about a gun permit then you should ask them for advise they will show many types of guns i have a few guns myself a 357 magnum snubnose is perfect for home protection it has plenty of stoping power and pretty cheap i use a 44 magnum good luck my freind

Hi mate. avp has spoken correctly, Talk to family first, then reputable arms dealer and/or gun club about what is right for you
Lots of folks make the mistake of making inappropriate arms for the sake of having it (ie.. somethng big and shiny with heaps of gadets bolted on).
Don't get hung up on MSAR (military style assult rifle) They take alot of practise if being used for self defence, (OK I admit it I have one...and boy I love to waste ammo with it). Self defence in my house is via hand to hand, I'm a diciple of the blade.
The point is Keep It Simple, untill you get fully involved.
