The Bushmaster A3 Type semiautomatic rifle has become the firearm of choice military forces and law enforcement agencies all over the globe. It is lightweight, accurate, has a high-capacity magazine and is easy to maintain. The Bushmaster A3 is a durable semiautomatic rifle whose features include hard chrome lining in both bore and chamber. This lining, which was previously incorporated as a military requirement, is still included because it the chrome prevents adhesion of powder residue and copper fouling much more effectively than plain barrel steel. Furthermore, chrome has a natural lubricity that increases muzzle velocity while easing chambering and extraction, too. The combination of the advantage results in the doubling of the barrel’s effective lifespan, provided regular maintenance procedures are observed.
Incorporated in the Bushmaster A3’s barrel is a ‘birdcage’ type flash suppressor. This flash suppressor has a closed bottom that compensates for muzzle climb while reducing dust signature when firing from the prone position. Along with all critical steel components of the Bushmaster A3, the barrel is manganese phosphate coated to enhance protection against corrosion and rust.
In the Bushmaster A3 one can remove the carry handle to permit easy mounting of a wide variety of scopes, red dot or holographic sights and even night vision equipment. The rear sight used in Bushmaster A3’s removable carry handle can be adjusted for range from 300 to 600 meters. Iron sight zero is repeatable on reattachment of the handle by means of its knurled knobs.
The Bushmaster A3’s upper and lower receivers have high tensile strength because they are precision machined from 7075T6 aircraft-quality aluminum forgings. The upper receiver incorporates a forward assist device as well as an integral cartridge case deflector, while the lower receiver controls include the bolt catch assembly, the magazine release button and a safety selector. The Bushmaster A3’s safety selector features indicator markings on both left and right sides. The ribbed front hand guards are crafted from polymer thermoset composite, which affords increased control and heat dissipation.
The Bushmaster A3’s pistol grip and butt stock are made of thermoset composite, too. The butt stock incorporates a storage compartment for small parts or maintenance implements. The manufacturers ship the Bushmaster M16 A2/A3 Type rifle inclusive of a 30 round magazine, safety and operational manual, as well as a carrying sling in a lockable hard case.
The Bushmaster A3, which fires .223 Remington caliber rounds, has a barrel length of 16” and comes in a black finish. The barrel features a rifling twist of one in every nine inches.
