Arthur Stubbs, turned 103yr old in july 2007.
Making him New Zealand's oldest surviving vet' of that battle.
Arthur showed some of the celebrants a letter, addressed to Arthur's father, after he was interred in a German POW camp, reguarding his conduct in said camp (presumably by a German officer)
The letter states..... "Charged with disobedience of orders and assulting a German detachment leader...
He was ordered to get up at 4am to be at his place of work at 7am.
Lance Corporal Stubbs refused to arise at the intended hour..... intentionally loitered in the washroom where a struggle ensued...
I regret having to distress you with information of this nature.... your son was legally represented by councel at the hearing.... sentenced to 18 months imprisonment."
